The deadline given by Bob Arum for Floyd Mayweather Jr. to decide to fight the Filipino pound for pound king boxer Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao has just passed and the promoter Bob Arum said that they'll move on to other fighters out there. Two of the fighters that are considered to be the opponent of Pacquiao are Antonio Margarito and Miguel Cotto which fight's tentative schedule is November 2010.
Here's a full report from Associated Press (AP) pertaining to the said news:
Manny Pacquiao will start looking for another opponent for his next bout now that promoter Bob Arum's deadline for a deal with Floyd Mayweather Jr. has passed. Arum said early Saturday morning that Mayweather hadn't responded to their contract proposal. Pacquiao will open discussions with Antonio Margarito and Miguel Cotto for a fight in November. Arum still holds out hope Mayweather will agree to what could be the richest fight in boxing history, but he couldn't wait any longer to start the time-consuming process of putting together a fight for Pacquiao. Pacquiao and Mayweather are the top two stars in boxing, and a meeting likely would be worth more than $40 million to each fighter. They've discussed a bout for nearly a year, but haven't made a deal. - APIn a separate interview by Fighthype with Jeff Mayweather, uncle of Floyd Mayweather Jr. - he said that basically the deadline was made by Bob Arum to make Floyd look like he's a bad guy. Here's what he said when asked by FightHype.com about the midnight deadline:
Basically, it's a situation where Bob wants to make Floyd look like he's a bad guy by doing this. Realistically, it doesn't matter because at the end of the day, Floyd don't need Manny and Manny don't need him. They need each other to make that kind of money, but if they can't agree...like I said, Bob just wants to make Floyd look like he's the bad guy by saying, "Oh, we gave him a deadline and he didn't beat it." But he told ya'll to do damn random testing and ya'll never did agree to it. And they still haven't agreed to it. And then he thinks they gonna try to trick somebody by saying, "Oh, we will do random testing with a 14-day cutoff." - FightHype.comWell, I was hoping that the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao will be happening this November but with the sounds of this interviews and buzz all over the web, it seems that it will never happen this year or in any years to come. Pacquiao, just moved on and fight. Whether its Pacquiao vs. Margarito or Pacquiao vs. Cotto rematch - go ahead, we still wants to see you fight.
